Earl Watterson

Earl Franklin Watterson, 93, of Worthington, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, at home with family by his side.

He was born Oct. 24, 1927, in Craigsville, and was the son of the late Clarence and Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Watterson.

Earl was a retired United Methodist minister. He served in many churches, the Summerville, Oakridge, Kingsville, Pa. (UMC) from 1965-1971; Manorville, Rogers Chapel, Pa. from 1971-1975 (UMC); Cochranton, Mumford, Pa. from 1975-1982 (UMC); Youngsville (EUM) Evangelical United Methodist Church, Pa. 1982-1988; Chicora, Karns City, Fairview, Pa. (UMC) 1988-1991; and First United Methodist Church, Butler, where he was the pastor of visitation from 1991-1995.He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Franklin Union Baptist Church.Earl served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.He enjoyed family time, travel and woodworking.Earl is survived by his spouse, Barbara (Smith) Watterson of Worthington; his daughter, Nancy (Gary) Schilling of Middleburg, Fla.; his daughter, Barbara (Chester) Harris of Massillon, Ohio; his son, Robert Watterson of Manorville, Pa.; his daughter, Joyce (Eric) Force of Kittanning; his daughter, Sue (Prentice) West of Worthington; his daughter, Charlene (Wayne) Jackson of Martinez, Ga.; his sister, Malissa Emma Jean Buzzard of Lees Summit, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; 31 great- grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mary Watterson; his wife, Lena Watterson and infant child; his wife of 59 years, Phyllis Watterson; his daughter, Brenda Corp; his brothers, Eugene Watterson, Andrew Watterson, and Clarence Watterson; and his sister, Marjorie Morrison.WATTERSON — Friends of Earl Franklin Watterson, who died Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home, 119 Bear St., Worthington.Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Franklin Union Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Chester H. Harris, the Rev. Gary Shilling, and the Rev. Melanie Fierbaugh officiating.Interment will be in Worthington Presbyterian Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin Union Baptist Church.For more information, please visit www.snydercrissman.com.
