2 contend in Lancaster Twp. supervisor race

Two candidates look to fill the seat of Kris Kniess as a Lancaster Township supervisor.

Greg Kessler is up against John Meyer for the six-year term on the board of supervisors.

Kessler currently serves as a member of the township's zoning hearing board, while Meyer is a former township supervisor. Kessler beat Meyer for the Republican nomination in the primary election, 347 votes to 240, but Meyer will appear on the ballot as a Democrat after being written in as a candidate.

Kessler did not respond to phone calls and voice messages prior to press time.

Meyer said his chief concerns are with the current supervisors and Lancaster's continued growth. He claimed there is “just a lot of waste going on” with the township's expenditures.

“I think we need to have someone in there who respects the residents,” Meyer said.

He also said there needs to be better communication with residents, and he railed against the current rate of residential and commercial growth and the ecologic impacts from it.

“The growth, the developers need to be addressed. They're getting out of control,” he said. “Somebody needs to be in there who cares about the residents and their property.”

The victor of the election would replace Kniess, who did not run for re-election.
