Butler County Young Professionals give away costumes
This Halloween will be a milestone in trick-or-treating for Sarah Nelson's four children.
Nelson, of West Sunbury, said it will be the first time all four go in costume. On Monday, her kids got to mix and match costumes at a distribution event at the Cubs Hall, where the Butler County Young Professionals were giving away costumes for free.
“It makes a difference a lot,” Nelson said of the distribution. “I wasn't sure they would have baby costumes, so that's really nice.”
The gymnasium at the hall was filled with children's costumes of all sizes, and Nelson was able to get some for all four kids.
The Butler County Young Professionals, an affiliate of the Butler County Chamber of Commerce, collect costume donations each year to give away to community members for the Ghouls for Good project.Caitlin Blum, a member of the Butler County Young Professionals, said that because Halloween costumes are often only worn once, the ones being distributed were in good condition.“Those are all either gently used or new,” Blum said. “A lot of what we get is in really good condition.”Almost a dozen people had picked up costumes only a few minutes into the afternoon distribution Monday. Last week, a separate giveaway was held in Cranberry Township.Hannah Shannon, of the Butler County Young Professionals, was pleased with the attendance for both events. Hundreds of costumes were distributed.“We're really happy with the turnout,” Shannon said. “We get so many costume donations each year.”The Butler County Chamber of Commerce is also hosting a free trick-or-treat event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at Preston Park.
