Edith Oesterling

Edith Irene Oesterling, 93, formerly of Butler, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, in Clinton, Tenn.

She was born April 27, 1928, in Butler County, and was the daughter of the late Albert George and Helen (Lowry) Protzman.

She married Keith LaVerne Oesterling on Sept. 11, 1946.

Edith belonged to the Spirit of Grace Church in Hudson, Fla., and St. John's Lutheran Church in Connoquenessing.

Edith was an auditor for Jefferson Township, and a census taker. The various clubs she belonged to were the Buco Trailer Club, the Order of the Eastern Star and 500 Card Club. She was a lifetime member and leader of the Girl Scouts.

She was commended by the Pennsylvania Senate for voting in 50 consecutive elections.

Her hobbies included quilting for family and Lutheran World Relief, doing jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo, gardening and taking active roles in her churches. For more than 26 years, she wintered at Ja-Mar North RV Park in Port Richey, Fla., where she participated in many activities.

Surviving are her daughters, Linda (Gregory) Hess of St. Simons Island, Ga. and Nancy (John) Atwell of Knoxville, Tenn.; her son, Bruce (Cheryl) Oesterling of Economy, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Kelsie (John) Bernot, Suzanne Atwell, Nicole (Daniel) Stultz, Keith (Izabela) Atwell, Aubrie Reedy, Nathan Oesterling and Katie Evans; 11 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Mildred Sutton of Butler and Velma (Allen) Montag of Florida; and her son-in-law, Walter Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Keith, who died Nov. 4, 2005; and her daughter, Laura Miller.

OESTERLING — Friends of Edith Irene Oesterling, who died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon Saturday at Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler.

Interment will be held in the Gruenwald Cemetery.

CDC recommends that all guests wear masks.
