Harriett Canning

Harriett Canning

Harriett Miriam “Mim” Canning, 94, passed away peacefully Aug. 27, 2021. She was currently residing at Concordia of Franklin Park.

Mim was born Nov. 22, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Alexander and Harriett Campbell of Oakdale.

Mim graduated in 1948 from Grove City College, with a Bachelor of Science in education.

She retired from teaching accounting after 31 years from North Hills High School. Mim loved teaching, and had many graduated students come visit to tell her how much they appreciated her as a teacher.

She was married Nov. 19, 1949, to the love of her life, to Howard (Hank) Canning. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1995.

Mim and Hank lived together in Wexford and Gibsonia, and before moving to Condcordia, Mim lived in Cranberry Township.

Mim is survived by three daughters, Gwen Hein (Lee) of Double Oak, Texas, Mary Jo Nock (David) of Cranberry Township, and Jane Skelly (Jack) of Harmony.

Mim had nine grandchildren, Melanie Hein-Almazan (Luis), Carrie Breckenridge and Lacey Aulbach (Ryan), of Texas; Brandon Nock (Erin) of Butler; Justin Nock (Courtney) of Seven Fields and Kaylan Nock of Butler; Megan Chase (Jeremy) of San Diego Calif.; Maureen Bell (Monte) of Indiana, Pa.; and Kelsey Quayle (Dan) of Poland, Ohio.

She was also blessed to have loved on 17 great- grandchildren, Sydney, Avery and Bentley Almazan; Logan, Charlotte and Caroline Breckenridge; Caleb, Aaron and Joshua Aulbach; Deakin and Brody Nock; Cameron, Layton and Teigan Nock; Harrison Chase; and Kennedy and Lillian Bell.

Mim was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.

Mim was an accomplished seamstress, loved to do crossstitch and knit.

She had been a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church in Wexford.

Her most beloved thing to do was sit on a beach — Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., and surround herself with all of her family. That was her happy place.
