Coats accepted for Bundle Up Butler
Donations of winter coats and men's gloves are now being accepted for distribution in the county's annual Bundle Up Butler event.
Jean Bowen, longtime event organizer, said those looking to donate new or gently used coats can call the Center for Community Resources at 724-431-3748 to find collection sites, which are located throughout the county.
Bowen said only winter coats that are new or like new, not lighter jackets, are being accepted in all sizes.
She said while all winter coats from size newborn to adult will be accepted, men's and women's coats in sizes 3X and 4X are always depleted during the distribution.
The distribution will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for drive-up and 1 to 3 p.m. for walk-up on Oct. 22, at Butler Memorial Park.
Registration in advance is required, and those collecting coats should enter the park by Miller or Wick streets.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there will not be an opportunity to try on coats, Bowen said.
Children's coats are free. Adult coats require a $5 donation.
Since its inception in 2013, Bundle Up Butler has distributed more than 5,000 coats to Butler's disadvantaged population.
Community agencies will have booths at the distribution to share information about services available.
