Police: Mother threw brick through car window
A woman is accused of endangering her children last week after she threw a brick through a car window.
Kayla M. Huff, 32, of Lyndora, was charged with two felony counts of child endangerment as well as misdemeanors, including two counts of simple assault and one count of disorderly conduct, related to a domestic dispute with the children's father.
Following her arraignment Friday by District Judge Lewis Stoughton, Huff was placed in Butler County Prison on $20,000 bond.
According to charging documents, Butler Township police arrived to the dispute on the 400 block of Bessemer Avenue, where they found Huff with bruises on her neck and leg.
Police said Huff gave officers a written statement in which she claimed her children's father came home and told her to leave. She wrote he then became physical with her, punching her face and legs.
Huff said the father left the home and went to the car, where she was also headed with their son.
“I had my foot (and) arm on the door jam in the driver side, (and) he took off, dragging me,” she wrote.
Police said when they spoke with the father, he had three videos of the incident that showed a different series of events.
Police said the first video shows the father repeatedly asking Huff to leave while Huff screams and yells, demanding a cigarette.
“(The father) attempts to push Huff toward the door,” said the officer in the affidavit. “Huff strikes (him) several times.”
Police said the second and third video show the father in the vehicle with the couple's two children in their car seats in the back. Police said Huff threatened to break the window, and the father tried to pull away.
“Huff moves to the rear of the vehicle before the sound of glass shattering and children screaming can be heard on video,” police said. “Officers observed half of a brick and bits of glass laying in one of the children's car seats.”
Police said Huff denied multiple times that she broke the window; however, she acknowledged the window was broken and could not explain how the brick entered the car.
A preliminary hearing for Huff is scheduled Oct. 7 before District Judge Kevin O'Donnell.
