Pedestrian dies in crash involving tractor trailer

A tractor trailer hit and killed a pedestrian Friday night on the 1100 block of New Castle Road in Prospect.

According to a state police news release, the pedestrian, a 43-year-old man from New York state, had entered the road from the berm on the east side.

Police said the tractor trailer was driven by a 64-year-old Slippery Rock man.

Police said the driver attempted to brake and steer the tractor trailer to the center lane.

“(The pedestrian) continued into the center turning lane, and (he) impacted (the tractor trailer) at (its) 11 o'clock position,” police said.

The pedestrian was taken by Butler Ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital. It was unclear whether he died en route or during treatment at the hospital.

Prospect and Unionville fire departments assisted police at the scene for almost four hours.
