Marilyn Stephenson
Marilyn K. Stephenson, 88, of Butler, passed away on Aug. 20, 2021, at Butler Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 18, 1932, in Butler, and was the daughter of the late Harold W. Campbell and the late M. Katharine Kuhn.
From the age of 8, when she started taking piano lessons, her life was full of music. She accompanied the grade school orchestra and many other groups when in high school. She also became familiar with the organ by taking lessons at Butler High School.
She was a member of the Stephen Foster Junior Music Club and Tuesday Musical Club of Butler. As a member of the Pennsylvania Federation of Music Clubs, she was assigned to represent that body on the VAVS committee at the Butler VA Medical Center. She participated with other music club members in providing entertainment for the veterans there. In 1969, she began working with chaplaincy programs, and was one of the organists for the Sunday services at the center. She faithfully played in the Alzheimer's unit at the VA weekly, for many years, as well. She acted as organist in various churches, with Thompson Miller, and over the years, she accompanied numerous soloists and groups in the Butler area.
Marilyn was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Butler Chapter 45 (past matron), Order of Rainbow for Girls (grand cross of color), and United Commercial Travelers of America (officer-local and state levels, past grand counselor).
Marilyn will be deeply missed and cherished by her daughter, Paula Baptiste Floyd (Carl), with whom she made her home over the past four years; her grandchildren, Nicholas S. Baptiste, Fontine M. Pedersen (Karl), and Logan M. Floyd; and her beautiful great-granddaughter, Rakel.
Her legacy of faith, love and devotion to family and friends, and gift of music live on through them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene F. Stephenson, whom she married on June 26, 1954, and who passed on May 12, 1999; and an infant son.
