Michael P. Reinhart
Arrest made in Cranberry Twp.

Cranberry Township Police charged a Homestead man for making threats against officers and others.

Police on Saturday charged Michael P. Reinhart, 45, with misdemeanor terroristic threats and summary criminal mischief offense.

“The defendant did state he was going to kill (a woman) at her residence and then come to the police department and kill officers,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit.

Following his arraignment Saturday night by District Judge William O'Donnell, Reinhart was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bond.

According to charging documents, police arrested Reinhart around 12:55 a.m. Saturday, while they awaited a decision on an involuntary commitment for him.

Police said while in custody, Reinhart attempted to harm himself. When officers intervened, he then flooded his toilet and caused other problems in his cell and another cell after he was moved.

“Throughout this course of interaction, Reinhart made multiple threats,” police said.

Police said he threatened to kill a woman, as well as police officers, and he referenced using a gun to do so.

“At one point, Reinhart requested I look at him and said, 'I hope you're not the one I have to shoot,'” said the investigating officer.

A preliminary hearing for Reinhart has been scheduled for Sept. 17 before District Judge David Kovach.
