A-C Valley switches to virtual program
Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District students transitioned to remote learning Tuesday because of an uptick in COVID-19 cases.
The school district was to conduct class remotely Tuesday and Wednesday.
About 70 people were quarantined at the elementary school and another 48 people were quarantined at the junior and senior high school, according to a news release issued Monday.
The district reported 10 positive COVID-19 cases at the elementary building and seven at the junior and senior high school. A combined 10 individuals awaited COVID-19 test results, six and four respectively.
“This means that all students and teaching staff will be at home and logging into their Google Classroom for virtual instruction tomorrow and the next day,” Superintendent David McDeavitt said in the release. “This virtual learning program will enable us to do deep cleaning in the district, and reduce the number of students and staff on campus in the hopes to stop this spread.”
He expressed a desire to return to face-to-face instruction later this week, but said if COVID-19 cases continue to increase, the district’s administration will consider extending the closure.
