Lois M. Panei

Lois M. Panei, 90, of Butler, passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021, at Concordia at Cabot.

Born Nov. 29, 1930, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Roy L. and Bertha Stoops Myers.

Lois was a member of St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church.

She also belonged to the Associated Artists of Butler County and the GFWC Intermediate League of Butler.

She was a proud member of the Butler High School Class of June 1948.

Following her high school graduation, Lois was employed for six years by Spang and Co. She later attended Point Park College before being employed by the Butler County Housing Authority. She remained with the Housing Authority as tenant supervisor and cashier for 23 years, retiring in 2000.

Lois was still in high school, working her after-school job at Harmon's Pharmacy on Center Avenue, when she met Frank Panei Jr. on Aug. 1, 1946, his first day home from naval duty overseas. Frank and Lois married four years later, on Aug. 26, 1950. Frank passed away on July 9, 2004. Lois had missed him (her sweetheart) every day since then.

She loved taking care of her children and her beloved husband, Frank. Lois spoke often of her parents and siblings, and her childhood growing up on Elm Street. She loved sitting outside in the sun and traveling to Florida. She loved her family. We loved her and we will miss her very much.

Lois is survived by two sons, Gordon Panei of Great Mills, Md., and Vernon Panei and his wife, Stacey, of Hollywood, Md.; three daughters, Francine Keefer and her husband, David, of Butler, Fontaine Day and her husband, Scott, of Butler, and Nadine Young and her husband, Anthony, of Butler; nine grandchildren, Matthew (Erin) Keefer, Melanie (Ryan) Farah, Emily (Chris) Green, Anna Day, Nathan Young, Sarah Young, Nicholas Panei, Anthony Panei and Susanne Panei; three great-grandchildren, Isabella Keefer, Charlotte Farah, and a great-grandson due in November; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Myers; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Frank Panei Jr., Lois was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Myers and Kenneth Myers; five sisters, Edith Guentner, Vera Nebel, Virginia Scarpitti, Norma Espy and Bonita “Bonnie” Gomori; one grandson, Trevor Nicholas Young; and her best friend, Lillian Giunta.

The family extends a special thank you to the caring staff at Concordia in Cabot, Good Samaritan Hospice, Dr. Dillon Stein and Terri Isacco of BHS Palliative Care, and Rome Monument.
