John Barron

John Barron

John W. “Jack” Barron passed away at his residence on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2021, after a period of declining health and a stroke at the age of 88.

He was born in Harlansburg, Pa., a son of Waldo Shaffer Barron and Julia (Boehm) Barron.

John loved to till the soil and raise crops, and he had a real pride in growing beautiful Christmas trees to brighten area homes. He was always trying to improve the quality of the trees he grew, and even when the fields were at capacity, he knew the location of specific trees. He loved trees and could make anything grow. He was a member of the Pennsylvania and National Christmas Tree Growers Association, and enjoyed traveling to various events held by those associations. He liked animals and the outdoors.

A 1951 graduate of Slippery Rock High School, John worked at Thorofare markets for several years, and retired from Armco in Butler, after nearly 30 years of employment there.

John is survived by his wife, I. Claire (Beatty) Barron, whom he married in 1957. They spent their life together in the home Jack had built on a portion of his family's homestead before their marriage.

Also surviving are two sons, Frank W. (Faith) Barron and David J. Barron; three grandchildren, Matthew F. (Andrea) Barron, Kristina M. (Bob) Krusey and Jamie S. Barron; and four great-granddaughters, Abigail, Emma, Lola and Mackenzie.

He is also survived by his brother, Frederick J. Barron; several nieces; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Frances E. (Barron) Fisher; his brother, D. Robert Barron; two sisters-in-law, Suzanne B. Barron and Lucille Lunn; and a brother-in-law, Calvin E. Fisher.

BARRON — There will be a private visitation and burial service for John W. “Jack” Barron, who died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2021, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME of Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Keith McIlwain of Slippery Rock United Methodist Church presiding.

Interment will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery.
