Following Camden Bush's extra point, the Rams' desperation pass fell incomplete as SV celebrated a 24-20 victory at NexTier Stadium.

Junior running back Ben Lane helped Freeport seize the momentum early.He also helped them snatch it back late as the Yellowjackets defeated Knoch, 28-14, Friday night at Knoch Stadium to become the first winner of the Pike Trophy.The Pike Trophy will be a traveling award presented to the winner of this game each year.“We're friendly neighborhood rivals,” Freeport coach John Gaillot said. “I love their coaching staff. I have a lot of respect for that program.

Mars quarterback Rafael Bartley's pass was deflected on its way to tight end Hunter Hart inside Shaler's 10-yard line Friday night at Titan Stadium.Growing pains from a new offensive system never seemed so cruel as when the pass fell into the hands of Shaler defensive back Luke Cignetti, who raced 95 yards for a touchdown.The interception snuffed out a 15-play, 52-yard trip the Planets took to the Titans' 13-yard line. Mars, which is transitioning from a run-heavy Wing-T to a more balanced spread attack, never found its mojo in a 25-6 non-conference football loss.

When playing a team such as North Catholic, mental mistakes and penalties will come back to bite you.Ambridge found that out early Friday night as the Trojans defeated the Bridgers, 41-0, at Moe Rubenstein Stadium in WPIAL Class 3A non-conference action.“As a head coach, you continue to push repetition,” Ambridge coach Sherman McBride said regarding some early mistakes. “Do understand, against a good team like North Catholic, you can't make mistakes. It could've been a different score at least.”North Catholic has lost just eight games in the past four seasons, with three of those losses in the WPIAL semifinals.

There was not much Sheffield could do to stop Union/AC valley from running up the score.The evening was sobered by injuries resulting in ambulance rides for two Sheffield players.The Wolverines were trounced in a 77-0 non-conference victory by Union/AC Valley.A Sheffield assistant coach referred to his players injuries: “Obviously there was some controversy as to some of the hits, some of the injuries. I'm not going to comment on it. As far as I know, from what I saw before the kids left was encouraging.”
