Farmers contribute winnings to grain rescue tube donation
Penn Township dairy farmers Dave and Dawn Mock donated the $2,500 they won from the America's Farmers Grow Communities program toward the Butler County Farm Bureau's donation of a grain rescue tube, auger system and firefighter training to the North Washington Volunteer Fire Department.
The Mocks and other county farm bureau members presented the rescue equipment to the fire department at its annual rodeo last week. Farmers enter the program, sponsored by the Bayer Fund, to donate the winnings to nonprofit organizations that benefit their communities.
Since 2010, the program had awarded more than $59 million to food banks, emergency response organizations, schools, youth agriculture programs and other organizations that support rural America.
The farm bureau has also donated grain rescue tubes to the Saxonburg and Prospect volunteer fire departments.
