Freedom Road bridge to close for weekend
CRANBERRY TWP — PennDOT crews will be working on the Freedom Road bridge this weekend.
The Freedom Road bridge project, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said, is coming closer to an end, with paving and the final line-painting occurring from 10 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday, weather permitting. Naturally, the work comes with another weekend closure of the bridge.
It's the end of a project that replaced the bridge carrying Freedom Road over the Pennsylvania Turnpike, upgrading it to a six-lane steel bridge with a shared-use path on both sides, along with widening, paving, drainage, signal upgrades and replacement, lighting and other assorted changes.
Due to the weekend closure, PennDOT has relayed a number of detours for nearby motorists.
To turn on to Freedom Road from Route 19 northbound, drivers should turn left to Cranberry Square Drive and left on Executive Drive before continuing right on Freedom Road. Those heading south on Route 19 should turn right on Thorn Hill Road, right on Commonwealth and left on Freedom.
Motorists driving west on Route 228 should turn right to Route 19 north, left to Cranberry Square Drive and left on Executive, then turn right on Freedom. Those coming from Freedom Road should turn right on Commonwealth, right again on Thorn Hill and left or right on Route 19.
