Frances Rostas
Frances Lillian Rostas of Spartanburg, S.C., formerly of Slippery Rock, was embraced by her heavenly family on Saturday, May 15, 2021. She was 92.
Fran was born July 30, 1928, in Slippery Rock, to James and Mary Jack Hockenberry.
She was a 1948 graduate of Slippery Rock High School, and studied secretarial skills at Grove City College. Among her jobs were secretarial positions at Grove City College and Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. She was a longtime church secretary at East Main Presbyterian Church in Grove City.
She married Stanley Rostas on Jan. 10, 1956, who was a partner in the former Rostas and Shipton television business in Grove City; he died in 1999. Together, they built a home, enjoyed traveling to different countries and raised three daughters.
Fran was a creative woman, who enjoyed painting and sketching, writing poetry, and publishing a monthly family newsletter. Later in life, she wrote a children's book of verse based on her childhood, “Grandma Had a Teddy Bear Too.”
Service was a great part of her character, as she was a Sunday school teacher and, later, a director for the Slippery Rock Senior Center.
Above all, she was a woman of faith, whose positive disposition was an example to her family, whom she loved dearly.
She is survived by three daughters, Cheri Passell (Brian) of Hudson, Ohio, Carol Young (Richard) of Jamestown, and Cindy Hart (Bob) of Spartanburg; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
