Car, ATV crash sends man to hospital

Medical helicopter lands at rodeo grounds

A crash involving a car and an ATV on Saturday sent one man to the hospital.

Butler County 911 dispatchers called emergency crews to action about 3:14 p.m. on the 800 block of North Washington Road in Washington Township.

According to North Washington second assistant fire chief Traves Sutton, firefighters arrived at the scene and found the car off the road. He said the car had struck the ATV from the side. The ATV was heavily damaged.

“The ATV was still connected to the front of the car,” Sutton said.

Sutton said there were two people from the car who were walking around as crews arrived, but the ATV rider was still lying on the ground with a severe leg injury.

“He was conscious the whole time,” Sutton said.

A medical helicopter was requested with a landing zone at the North Washington Rodeo. Sutton said firefighters from Eau Claire Volunteer Fire Department assisted in setting up the landing zone.

“Some of our personnel still at the rodeo grounds (from the ongoing event) started setting up until Eau Claire arrived on scene,” Sutton said.

Karns City Regional and Butler ambulance services assisted with treatment and evaluation at the scene as well as the transport of the rider to the landing zone.

Sutton said the rider was in the air about 30 minutes after their arrival, and the two people from the car refused treatment at the scene.

The section of road around the crash was blocked while state police investigated at the scene.

As of press time Monday, police had not yet published a crash report for the incident.
