II-VI board chairman position to change
Francis J. Kramer, former CEO and current chairman of the board of directors of II-VI Inc., will relinquish the chair position following the November annual II-VI shareholder meeting, with current CEO Vincent D. Mattera Jr. supplanting him while continuing his chief executive role.
Kramer will at that time transition to the role of chair emeritus but will continue as a director. In addition to his CEO role, Mattera is also a director of the Clinton Township-based engineered materials and optoelectronic component company.
“II-VI has a legacy of stable and consistent leadership, and I am pleased that the board has selected Chuck (Mattera) to succeed me as chair,” Kramer said. “Chuck has an extensive history and knowledge of the company and its changing markets, and he is the right person to lead the company through these significant evolutions, especially during the upcoming integration with Coherent Inc.”
Kramer served as II-VI’s president from 1985 to 2007 as president and CEO from 2007 to 2014 and as CEO and board chairman from 2014 to 2016. When Mattera became CEO, in 2016, Kramer stayed on the board as chairman.
Mattera will become the third chairman in the 50-year history of II-VI. He was a member of the board from 2000 to 2002, and subsequently joined the company as vice president in 2004. After that, he served in various management roles and became CEO in 2016.
“I’m honored that the board has asked me to lead the company during these exciting times and through these next stages in the company’s growth,” Mattera said. “I also especially appreciate the years of service (Kramer) has provided and the strong foundation that he set into place”.
Retired Rear Adm. Marc Y.E. Pelaez will continue to serve as lead independent director on the II-VI board, a position he has held since 2014.
