Butler man charged with strangulation
Police arrested a man Monday for allegedly strangling his ex-girlfriend inside their Butler apartment.
City police charged Noah Weaver, 22, of Butler, with felony strangulation and misdemeanor simple assault in relation to a call they received around 4:36 p.m. Monday to a West Jefferson Street apartment.
Following his arraignment by District Judge Lewis Stoughton, Weaver was released on a nonmonetary bond.
According to charging documents, the call to police initially reported an assault by a person who was armed with a gun.
Police said after arriving on the scene, they spoke with the accuser, Weaver's ex-girlfriend, who said Weaver was still inside the apartment they share. According to police, she said the gun was not involved in the assault, but she knew he had a pistol inside the apartment.
Police said the ex-girlfriend told officers that Weaver pushed her into his bedroom closet and choked her around the neck.
“(She) stated that she could not breath,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit. “I did view redness on her throat and neck area.”
According to police, the ex-girlfriend said she broke free and retreated to her room, where Weaver followed her and threw her to the ground. Police said the woman had injuries to her elbow and back from the shove.
“Officers called Weaver from outside the residence and ordered him to come outside,” police said. “He did so willingly.”
A preliminary hearing for Weaver has been scheduled for Oct. 4 before District Judge William Fullerton.
