Man accused of assault, DUI in crash
Cranberry Township Police issued felony charges against an 18-year-old man, who they said was intoxicated during a June vehicle crash.
“The crash scene consisted of two vehicle with one vehicle overturned,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit.
Jaren D. Thimons of Sewickley is charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault by vehicle and a three misdemeanor counts related to DUI. According to documents, this would be Thimons' first offense if he's found guilty.
According to charging documents, police were dispatched around 2:28 a.m. June 6 to a two-vehicle crash on Route 228 at its intersection with the Interstate 79 North off-ramp.
Police said Thimons had been identified as the driver of a black BMW, which had overturned. The other driver and a passenger from the other vehicle were being treated by EMS. The two people from the other vehicle were taken by ambulance for treatment at a nearby hospital.
“While speaking with Thimons, I also noticed his eyes to be bloodshot and watery, and his speech was slurred,” police said.
Police said field sobriety tests showed Thimons was impaired. He was taken for blood testing, which allegedly showed his blood-alcohol content at .198%. In Pennsylvania, a level of .08% is considered intoxicated, and it is illegal to consume alcohol under the age of 21.
Police said they also reviewed traffic camera footage to review the events of the crash.
“Thimons was viewed failing to stop for a steady red traffic light and striking the other vehicle, which entered the intersection from the Interstate 79 north off-ramp,” police said.
Thimons has yet to be arraigned on these charges, after which a preliminary hearing will be scheduled.
