Butler Twp. participates in National Night Out

Butler Township firefighter Lt. James Senopole lets 3-year-old Izabella Reges, of Butler, try on his fire helmet during the annual National Night Out in the 100 Block of Greenhill Drive in Butler Township on Tuesday night.

Local residents were invited to meet with Butler Township commissioners, police and volunteer fire district members Tuesday for the area's seventh annual National Night Out.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. It is hosted in different communities nationwide, annually the first Tuesday in August, according to the National Night Out website.

Butler Township Police Chief John Hays said the event is important in connecting public safety officers with their communities.

“To get back in touch with neighborhoods,” he said of the event's purpose.

Attendees of the event also got to get a close-up look at fire trucks and police vehicles.

Izabella attended the event with her mother, Cassie Reges, father, Shawn Reges and sister, Patience Reges, 5, while visiting her grandmother Sally Reges of Greenhill Drive.
