Boil water advisory affecting Fairview lifted
The boil water advisory affecting some Butler County residents has been lifted.
Leadership in East Brady, Armstrong County lifted the advisory around 11 a.m. Thursday.
Originally put into place July 16, some county residents, including those in Petrolia, Fairview Township and the surrounding area, receive their water through East Brady's water system.
“All our tests came back negative, so the DEP said we could lift the advisory,” said Susan Buechele, secretary and treasurer for East Brady.
Buechele also confirmed that the parts of their system that had failed have been fixed.
According to the advisory, a gas chlorine injector was found malfunctioning July 10, and also the system that should have recognized that disruption, known as the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system, was not working properly.
Both the injector and system have been fixed and updated accordingly.
In a statement from the Petroleum Valley Regional Water Authority, which distributes the water to county customers, the boil advisory was the best course of action. The authority notified its customers through an automated phone message within two hours of receiving word from East Brady officials.
“After reaching out to the DEP for instructions, the DEP, in (an) abundance of caution, similarly ordered Petroleum Valley to place our customers under a boil advisory,” the statement said.
The authority also noted that despite the advisory, its system did not detect any chlorine abnormalities.
“To date, chlorine residual levels have remained constant in Petroleum Valley's water system,” the statement said.
