Butler H.S. classroom addition vote tabled
Butler Township commissioners voted Monday to table a vote on a land development for the Butler High School classroom addition project.
Butler Area School District has been planning this project for years, in order to expand the high school to bring the ninth grade class in, according to Brian Slamecka, assistant superintendent of the school district.
However, the township commissioners asked that the developers get a stormwater management plan in place before they would approve the request.
The school district is working with project manager IKM and an engineer from Sheffler and Co. for the 19,000-square-foot addition, which will add 10 new classrooms to the high school, as well as a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) space, with wood shops, 3D printers and additional technology.
Approved request
Also at the Monday meeting, the commissioners approved a land development request for the Autumn Woods plan by Winmer Properties. While the 23-building residential development had already been approved for construction off Meridian Road, the developer amended the construction plan to take place in two phases.
Eight buildings will be constructed in phase 1, along with a stormwater management facility. The rest of the units will be completed in phase 2.
Commissioners granted preliminary and final approval to phase 1, and preliminary approval to phase 2 at Monday's meeting.
Hire firm
The commission also voted to hire a financial management firm as the police pension plan financial adviser.
Tom Knights, Butler Township manager, said the process of looking for a new financial adviser started last October. The township received only a few applicants, so he recommended the township appoint one firm to the plan. “We received two applications,” Knights said. “The conclusion for the police finance manager was to go ahead and appoint Public Financial Management as the financial manager.”
