Pirates top Mets
PITTSBURGH — Wilmer Difo and Bryan Reynolds homered and Adam Frazier had a two-run single Friday night as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the New York Mets, 4-1, at PNC Park.
Chad Kuhl pitched five innings and got the win for the Pirates. Mars graduate David Bednar pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Richard Rodriguez picked up the save.
Mets star shortstop Francisco Lindor left the game in the fifth inning with soreness on his right side.
Lindor winced after grounding out to second base. He took a few steps out of the batter’s box but then peeled off toward the Mets’ dugout on the first base side.
Lindor is hitting .228 with 11 home runs and eight stolen bases in 88 games. He agreed to a $341 million, 10-year contract just before opening day.
The game was delayed by rain for 39 minutes in the second inning.
