Details of Rt. 68 fatal motorcycle accident revealed
State police Thursday released additional information about the death of a Clarion County motorcyclist who crashed into a deer in Fairview Township on June 2.
According to a news release, Thomas E. Curry, 70, of Rimersburg, hit a deer-head on while riding his motorcycle north on Route 68.
According to his obituary in the Leader-Vindicator of New Bethlehem, Curry died July 6 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Police said they responded to the scene around 9:15 p.m. and found Curry injured and on the right side of the road about 800 feet north of Holly Road.
Police said Curry fell off the motorcycle after hitting the deer. The 2001 Harley-Davidson continued riderless for a brief distance before it came to rest on the opposite side of the road.
Police said Curry was treated for his injuries at the scene and was transported by Chicora Ambulance Service to a Karns City school with LifeFlight before state police arrived.
Chicora Fire Department assisted at the scene and with setting up the landing zone.
According to his obituary, Curry worked for Conrail as a conductor for 20 years, until an accident caused his early retirement. He also had been a driver for the Rimersburg Ambulance Service, as well as an active member of his community.
“Tom was larger than life!” his obituary read. “His passions included woodworking, small motor repair, the coffee club at the Korner Restaurant, camping at Deer Meadow Campground and mowing lawns for anyone who was in need.”
