Pa. gun background check numbers fall
State police said the Pennsylvania Instant Check System’s record-breaking volume streak ended the second quarter of 2021 after the previous three quarters experienced unprecedented volume.
The system is used by county sheriffs, police in first class cities and licensed firearms dealers to determine an individual’s legal ability to acquire a license to carry firearms or obtain a firearm through a purchase or transfer. In the second quarter of 2021, the system completed 334,108 background checks. The previous records were 427,450 background checks in the first quarter of 2021, 420,581 in the fourth quarter of 2020 and 406,151 in the third quarter of 2020.
