Police: Mother charged with child endangerment
Two Karns City parents have been accused of leaving their young children home alone.
State police filed charges Monday against Mandy McCall, 32, including three counts of felony child endangerment and three counts of misdemeanor reckless endangerment, one set of charges for each child.
She has been released on a nonmonetary bond.
According to a state police news release, charges also are pending against the children's father, Jacob Fowler, 39.
Charging documents state a person passing the couple's Oneida Valley Road home stopped for a black dog that was on the road. The passerby called state police, who took the dog home.
“When I made contact at the residence, I was met by an 8-year-old boy,” said the investigating trooper. “(The boy) related the dog belonged to them.”
Police said the 8-year-old told troopers he was home alone with his two younger brothers, ages 6 and 3.
He told police both of his parents left together with his youngest sibling in their white van.
Police said they arrived at the house around 8:55 p.m. to return the dog. Police said repeated calls were made to McCall, who eventually answered and returned to her home just after 10:30 p.m.
“The three children were left for over 2.5 hours unsupervised,” police said.
Police said Fowler was not with McCall when she returned home, and McCall appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.
Police arrested McCall and took her to a drug recognition expert for evaluation. The expert found her to be under the influence of a controlled substance.
Police also charged McCall with a controlled-substance DUI.
McCall is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing July 20 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
