55-year-old Butler man faces assault charges
A Butler Township man was arrested after he allegedly threatened and tried to stab his roommate.
Butler Township Police charged Richard L. Quinn, 55, with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanors of having a weapon, simple assault and terroristic threats, stemming from the July 3 altercation at his Saxonburg Road home.Following his arraignment by District Judge David Kovach, Quinn was placed in Butler County Prison, where he remains on $50,000 bond.According to charging documents, police were called by the roommate's girlfriend. The investigating officer said another officer already had Quinn in handcuffs when he arrived.“When he arrived on scene, he observed that (the roommate) was holding Quinn on the floor in the dining area,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit. “(The roommate) told him that he disarmed Quinn, and the knife Quinn had was on the floor near the table.”Police said Quinn said he wanted his roommate and his roommate's girlfriend out of his house for good.“He denied pulling a knife on (the roommate,)” police said. “Quinn stated that (the roommate) broke in and threatened him.”Police said they recovered a switchblade knife with a 3-and-5/8-inch blade, and the roommate and his girlfriend had a different recollection.Police said Quinn had locked the roommate out after throwing his things on the front yard of the home. Police said there was a mattress, a laptop and other items laying on the front yard of the home.Police said the roommate found a way into the home, and Quinn confronted him. The affidavit said the two exchanged unpleasant words.“(The roommate) stated that Quinn then pulled a knife and thrust the blade toward his throat,” police said. “He stated that he wrestled Quinn to the floor and disarmed him.”Police said the girlfriend corroborated the roommate's story, and Quinn was noticeably drunk and struggled to focus while giving his account of events.Quinn is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing July 15 before District Judge Kevin O'Donnell.
