Sharon Lowers
Sharon Elaine Lowers, 74, formerly of Slippery Rock, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the home of her daughter in Mount Lebanon.
She was born on Sept. 28, 1946, and was the daughter of the late Ralph Isaac Mong Sr. and Ruth Gearhart Mong.
She enjoyed 45 years of a devoted and happy marriage to the late Larry Edward “Ed” Lowers. They married on June 28, 1969, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 2015.
She retired from Slippery Rock University after 38 years of service as a secretary in the Counseling and Educational Psychology Department.
She was a member of the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church and the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls.
Sharon’s love for her family was immeasurable. She enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends, the beach, camping and swimming at the ARC. Her real passion was traveling the world with her family and planning the next adventure.
She was involved with several organizations, including serving on the state board of the Pennsylvania Mothers of Twins Club, and as president of the Butler chapter. For years, she served on Slippery Rock Parks and Recreation Commission, helping to create programs and services for the community.
She is survived by her twin daughters, Melinda Sue Kaiser and her husband, Craig, of Pine Township and Dr. Michele Ann Lowers of Mount Lebanon; two brothers, Raymond “Dick” (Paige) Mong, and Ralph I. “Sonny” (Cindy) Mong Jr., and her sister, Gaylene (Brian) Hillard, all from the Eau Claire area; her stepgrandson, Cody; and several nieces and nephews.
Lowers — The family of Sharon Elaine Lowers, who died Saturday, June 5, 2021, will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2021, and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Keith McIlwain of Slippery 5 United Methodist Church presiding.
Interment will follow at Clintonville United Methodist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Sharon’s memory to the Slippery Rock Feed My Sheep Food Cupboard, 324 North Main Street, Slippery Rock, PA 16057.
