Mary Lou Burkett

Mary Lou Burkett, 94, of Zelienople, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021, while under the care of UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.

Born Dec. 23, 1926, in Zelienople, she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Nesbitt.

Mary Lou was a faithful member of St. Peter's Reformed Church in Zelienople.

She loved gardening, flowers, reading, and collecting things. She also enjoyed traveling and camping with her family.

Mary Lou will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, John D. Burkett Jr. of Bayou Vista, La., Judy (Alan) Hannas of Mercer, and Janet (Greg) LaRocca of Ellwood City; her five grandchildren, Melissa Simmerman, Jason (Karen) Hannas, Ryan (Erin) Hannas, and Rachel and Liz LaRocca; and her 11 great-grandchildren, Brooke, Savanna and Benjamin Simmerman, and Jacob, Autumn, Joshua, Jonathan, Ashley, Andrew, Alexis and Abigail Hannas; and her great-great-granddaughter, Bella.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, John D. Burkett; and her four brothers, Ray Nesbitt, Irwin “Dutch” Nesbitt, Howard “Fritz” Nesbitt and Roy “Pete” Nesbitt.

BURKETT — The family of Mary Lou Burkett, who died Friday, June 4, 2021, will receive friends from noon until 3 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2021, at Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Reformed Church, 320 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, with Pastor James R. Bertoti officiating.She will be laid to rest at English Lutheran Cemetery in Zelienople.If desired, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to St. Peter's Reformed Church.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.
