Butler motorcyclist dies in Armstrong crash

A Butler man died Friday after his motorcycle crashed into a truck in Armstrong County.

Kenneth R. Shaffer, 60, of Butler, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to a news release by the Armstrong County Coroner's Office.

Shaffer had been riding a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle east on Route 422 in East Franklin Township when he struck a Ford F-350 Stake Bed truck.

The report said the truck had been making a left turn into the westbound lane of Route 422 from Glade Run Road, causing the motorcycle to hit the truck's side.

Coroner Brian K. Myers said an autopsy will not be performed, and toxicological analysis will take multiple weeks to obtain results. He said speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Myers said blunt-force trauma was the cause of death. He said Shaffer had been wearing a helmet.

Pennsylvania State Police were on the scene and their investigation continues.

Fire and EMS crews from West Hills, Worthington, West Franklin, West Kittanning and Kittanning, assisted at the scene.
