Joseph Monteleone
Joseph D. Monteleone, 93, of Grove City, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021.
Mr. Monteleone was born on July 11, 1927, in Grove City (Hallville), and was the son to Dominick and Lena (Macri) Monteleone. He was a lifelong resident of Grove City. Mr. Monteleone graduated form Grove City High School in 1948.
Mr. Monteleone was a businessman for 44 years prior to his retirement, operating Joe's Dry Cleaning and Laundry business. He also owned a beauty shop business known as Cloud 9 Beauty Salon, among other business activities. He worked with the Slippery Rock University Band for 29 years, retiring in 1992.
Mr. Monteleone served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater.Mr. Monteleone was a life member of Junior Chamber International, beginning in 1960; a life member of the Knights of Columbus; a life member of the American Legion; a life member of the VFW; a life member of Disabled American Veterans; a member of the Grove City Historical Society; and a member of the Grove City Revitalization Corporation.Mr. Monteleone was awarded the Grove City Jaycees Man of the Year Award in 1968, the Florence McKenzie Community Award in 1978 and the Grove City Chamber of Commerce Service Award in 2010.Mr. Monteleone had an active involvement in Grove City philanthropic activities, establishing the Joseph D. Monteleone Youth Festival Park; the Joseph D. Monteleone/Grove City College Picnic Area-Wolf Creek; the Joseph D. Monteleone and Grove City College Ketler Collection of Letters, housed with Grove City College and the Grove City Historical Society; the Grove City Memorial Picnic Shelter; and the Monteleone Trust under the Grove City Foundation for philanthropic purposes.Mr. Monteleone was a member of the Church of The Beloved Disciple.Surviving Mr. Monteleone is his niece, Linda Swift and husband, Dennis, their children, Michael Artello and Shannon Artello, all of Edinboro; a niece, Lori Monteleone, and her children, Kailee, Marissa, and Kasey, all of Santa Rose, Calif.; and his sister-in-law, Freida (Frank) Monteleone, of Slippery Rock.His parents, and three brothers, Vincent, Frank, and Carmen, preceded him in death.Monteleone — A public memorial service for Joseph D.
