Woman faces 95 charges after car chase

A high speed chase led to nearly 100 charges for a Butler woman Wednesday.

Stephanie M. Bonini, 29, of Butler, was arrested after she allegedly led state police on an extensive high speed chase through five different municipalities. The end result for Bonini was 95 charges.

Following her arraignment Thursday morning, Bonini was placed in Butler County Prison on $25,000 bond.According to charging documents, 86 of those charges were traffic-related and accumulated throughout the pursuit, but eight stood apart, and include two felonies — fleeing from police and aggravated assault.Bonini also was charged with misdemeanors of a first-offense, controlled substance DUI; possession of a controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; fleeing to avoid apprehension; resisting arrest; and reckless endangerment.Police said the ordeal began when troopers saw a silver GMC Envoy around 7:21 p.m. Wednesday on Chicora Road in Summit Township. Police said they saw the SUV make multiple lane violations, prompting the traffic stop near the Oneida Valley Road intersection.“The vehicle abruptly stopped on the berm at the northwest corner of the intersection and put its reverse lights on,” said the investigating trooper. “Prior to personal contact with the operator, the involved vehicle fled at a high rate of speed northbound on Oneida Valley Road.”Police did not include a specific path of travel in the affidavit, but it was noted to run through Summit, Oakland, Center and Butler townships, before coming to an end in Butler city.“During the pursuit, the involved vehicle committed 86 traffic violations that included striking an unattended vehicle and failing to yield on East Pearl Street and nearly striking a pedestrian walking a dog,” police said.According to police, two attempts were made to stop the vehicle using precision immobilization techniques, which involve police creating contact with the fleeing vehicle with their own cruiser in a strategic way.Police said the second attempt did the trick and stopped the car, but not the confrontation.“The operator then exited the passenger side of the vehicle and began to flee on foot,” police said. “The operator did not obey verbal commands to stop, at which point she was physically arrested after a brief struggle.”According to police, officers found Bonini with seven full stamp bags of heroin and three empty stamp bags that had contained heroin.“It was determined that Bonini was fleeing police as she had an active bench warrant entered in Clean/NCIC by the Butler County Sheriff's Office for 'dangerous drugs' as a misdemeanor,” police said.In addition to the charges laid out in the case, police are also seeking restitution for three damaged cruisers.A preliminary hearing in the case has been scheduled for July 6 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
