Cars, motorbikes should share roads

The state Department of Transportation is reminding motorists and motorcyclist to share the road this summer.

Last year, there were more than 3,400 crashes statewide involving motorcycles, which resulted in 217 fatalities.

Motorists are advised to check mirrors and blind spots for motorcycles, which can be harder to see than passenger vehicles.

Drivers should also allow at least four seconds when following a motorcycle, signal before changing lanes or merging with traffic, allow motorcycles a full lane width and never drive impaired.
