Lana Carole Maier
Lana Carole Maier, 77, of Butler, passed away May 14, 2021, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 19, 1943, in New Kensington, and was the daughter of the late James A. Burwell and the late Dorothy Merrits.
Lana was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she organized the “Greeters” for the 8:20 a.m. church service.
She volunteered at Butler Memorial Hospital for 40 years, arranging artificial flowers for sale at the hospital gift shop. Lana was active in the PTA when her sons were young. She was a co-chairman of the Prom Decorating Committee from 1984 to 1985, and was active in the Boys Basketball Mothers Group from 1986 to 1988.
Lana enjoyed arranging flowers and reading.
Lana was an eternal optimist, and a kind, big-hearted lady, who always cared for others. She was Fred’s best friend.
Lana is survived by her husband, Frederick C. Maier, whom she married on March 26, 1966; two sons, David M. (Brenda) Maier of Butler and Mark A. (Jill) Maier of Butler; five grandchildren, Makenna G. Maier, Avery H. Maier, Rick Moore, Jessica Dittmer and Doug Johnston; two great-grandchildren, Devin Dittmer and Joshua Moore; one brother, James Burwell of Port Charlotte, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Frank E. Maier; one sister-in-law, Nancy Maier; three nieces, Penny Guyton, Dawn Burwell and Jennifer Burwell; and one nephew, Frank M. Maier.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Burwell.
MAIER — Friends of Lana Carole Maier, who died Friday, May 14, 2021, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., Butler, with the Rev. David Janz officiating.
Burial will take place in North Side Cemetery.
