Charge filed in case of camera found in bathroom

A former Center Township resident has been charged with tampering with evidence related to a camera found in a Target bathroom in Richland Township.

Killian J. Redman, 28, of Pittsburgh, was charged June 7 with misdemeanor tampering with evidence following an investigation by the Northern Regional Police Department of Allegheny County.

In late April, police responded to a call by a store employee about finding the camera, which was concealed in the shape of a cellphone charger.

Police said the person found the camera, then showed it to a second employee. Police said both employees were sure there was an SD card in the camera before Redman came to see it.

“(The employee who found the camera) observed Redman remove the SD card,” said the investigating detective in the affidavit. “He told (Redman) to put the card back in the camera, but he never did.”

The other employee also allegedly saw Redman fiddle with the camera.

“(The employee said) at one point, Redman turned away and was working with the camera; the SD card was never seen again,” police said.

Police said at the time of the investigation, Target management was uncooperative, unwilling to report the crime or give out employee information without a warrant.

In an April interview, Northern Regional Police Chief John Sicilia said Target later assisted their investigation by providing interior surveillance footage.

Sicilia said that by the time police conducted a search of Redman's then-Center Township home, it had been nearly a day since the camera was found in the store, and there was no evidence found at the home.

Sicilia confirmed Redman was living in Center Township at the time, despite his new Pittsburgh address.

Redman is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing June 7 before District Judge Tom Swan in Gibsonia.
