Police say man attempted to strangle wife
A Cherry Township man allegedly jumped through a car window to strangle and beat his wife.
State police arrested and charged Adam M. Gould, 37, early Sunday morning with felonies of strangulation, terroristic threats and aggravated assault. He was also charged with two counts of misdemeanor simple assault.
Following his arraignment the same day, he was placed in Butler County Prison on $75,000 bond.According to charging documents, police were called to Annandale Station in Cherry Township for a reported assault.“While interviewing (the wife), I observed bruising on her neck and throat in the shape of fingers,” said the investigating officer. “I also observed a large hematoma on the back of her head with bruising.”According to police, the wife's account of events began Saturday night at the couple's home, when they began arguing at their Vidic Road residence in Cherry Township. The wife allegedly said that during the argument, she went to the bathroom, but Gould followed her with a .22-caliber revolver in hand.“(The wife) advised that Adam Gould pointed the pistol at her head and stated that he would kill her,” police said.According to police, the wife then told officers that the situation calmed down, and the two left the home for a period of time. She said the argument began again as they returned home.“(The wife) advised that she attempted to leave the residence in her vehicle and that Adam Gould entered the vehicle through the passenger-side window,” police said. “(She) indicated that Adam Gould grabbed her by the throat and head and began hitting her head against the B-pillar of the vehicle.”The B-pillar of a vehicle is the vertical support between the front door and rear-door on either side of the vehicle.Police said Gould was arrested without incident, and he did not wish to give an official account of the incident. Police said he instead made unsolicited comments.“Adam Gould refused to give a formal statement, but did admit to possession of the firearm during the argument and stated that he can only take so much, and that he snapped,” police said. “Adam Gould did advise that he did not point the firearm at (his wife).”A preliminary hearing for Gould has been scheduled for June 22 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
