Melvin Grossman

Melvin J. Grossman, 82, of Ridgeville, passed away Friday May 7, 2021, at Butler Memorial Hospital after a heart seizure.

Melvin was born on Aug. 3, 1938, in Cherry Township, a son of the late James M. Grossman and the late Ruby L. (Phillips) Grossman.

Melvin was a mason and member of the Butler/Victory Lodge 272 and a Member of the Scottish Rite of New Castle. He retired from Heckett as a mechanic. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, going to camp, and spending time with his family. For many years, Melvin was known in the neighborhood as “The Handyman” always willing to help a neighbor in need.

Melvin is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Ruth Irene (Brewster) Grossman, whom he married on June 14, 1958; two daughters, Ruth Dunn of Transfer and Karen (Jeffrey) Lyons of Forestville; one son, Melvin “Jim” (Nancy Renick) Grossman of West Sunbury; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Ruby “Sis” Delores (George) Early of Hilliards; two brothers, Samuel E. (Doris) Grossman of West Sunbury and Larry J. (Judy) Grossman of Alabama, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Melvin was preceded in death by one brother, one granddaughter, and one son-in-law.

Grossman — Family and friends of Melvin J. Grossman, who died Friday May 7, 2021, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main St., West Sunbury.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Miller, officiating.

Burial will be in Rosewood Cemetery.
