Katherine Tiche

Our beloved Katherine (Logut) Tiche, 100, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. Thank you to all of the staff at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot for your excellent care.

Katherine was born Oct. 5, 1920, in Eldorado, Parker, Pa., to Anthony and Katherine Logut. She was raised on the Logut Dairy Farm in North Washington during the Great Depression, where she walked a mile to school and worked hard every day, helping her father with all of the outdoor farm chores.

After graduating from Concord High School, she worked as a housekeeper during World War II for prominent families in Butler and Pittsburgh, and as a waitress at upscale Childs Restaurant on 5th Avenue in Pittsburgh.

On Oct. 14, 1946, Katherine married Louis Michael Tiche, a World War II veteran, and lived in Boyers for 66 years, where she faithfully raised her family and loved attending the St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, the Boyers Echo Club and the Senior Center of Slippery Rock. She attended 50 straight high school reunions, and served as president, vice president and secretary-treasurer. She also was an avid stamp collector.

Most important to her were God, family and friends. Her gentle, loving spirit, her keen intellect, her beautiful flower gardens and her fierce determination to persevere will always be an inspiration and a blessing to us all.

Katherine is survived by her two daughters, Darlane (Richard) Wiles of Havana, Fla., and Loretta (Robert) Smith of West Sunbury; her grandchildren, David (Carmel) Wiles of Hawthorne, Fla., Jason (Roni) Wiles of Tallahassee, Fla., Benjamin (Stacey) Smith of Memphis, Tenn., and Julie (Shafeeq) Sinnamohideen of Pittsburgh; and one great-grandson, Daniel Sinnamohideen.

She is also survived by her sister, Helen Sankey of West Sunbury; four godchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, who passed away Sept. 10, 1991; one brother, Joseph Logut; and two sisters, Anna Ganger and Mary Rozic.
