Felony DUI filed after truck crash
A Butler man is facing felony DUI charges stemming from a vehicle accident in April that resulted in him being hospitalized.
Butler Township Police charged Franklin C. Elliott, 22, with felony DUI, involving both drugs and alcohol.
Following his arraignment Thursday, Elliott was released on his own recognizance.
According to charging documents, police arrived at the scene of a single-vehicle accident around 12:28 a.m. April 7 on Beech Road in Butler Township. Police said they found Elliott lying next to his silver Ford F-150.
“Elliott was observed crawling out of the driver's side window by two witnesses,” said the investigating officer.
Police said Elliott had driven the truck down an embankment, struck a tree and came to rest in the yard of a nearby home.
Police said Elliott was “covered in blood” and was later taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for head trauma suffered in the crash.
While EMS crews prepared Elliott for transport, according to police, he admitted to drinking earlier that night. He also admitted the vehicle was his, police said, but he was less willing to admit to being the driver.
“Elliott did not want to go to the hospital and asked if he could just 'sober up' and go home,” police said.
Police said inside the vehicle, they found an open beer can, a cooler in the back of the truck with two unopened beers, a small amount of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia.
According to documents, blood tests showed Elliott had a blood-alcohol content of 0.129% and a combination of drugs, including amphetamine, marijuana and fentanyl.
Elliott is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing July 22 before District Judge Kevin O'Donnell.
