State Police report 8 weekend crash deaths
Eight fatalities and 183 injuries resulted from the 844 traffic crashes state police investigated during the four-day Memorial Day weekend.
Police said alcohol was a factor in 63 of the accidents, but none of the fatal crashes.
Troopers made 596 arrests for driving under the influence and issued 9,624 speeding citations during the holiday weekend. State police also cited 1,025 individuals for not wearing seat belts and issued citations to 144 motorists for not securing children in safety seats.
No data was collected last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, nine people were killed in eight fatal crashes and 216 were injured in 755 crashes over the holiday weekend. Alcohol was a factor in two of the fatal crashes and 65 of the total crashes. Troopers made 582 DUI arrests, issued 14,226 speeding citations, issued 308 child seat citations, issued 1,469 seat belt citations and 16,681 other citations.
