Pirates swept in KC, 10-5

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Brady Singer struck out six in 5.2 innings Tuesday night as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 10-5, to sweep a two-game series at Kauffman Stadium.

Pirate starter Will Crowe was roughed up for eight earned runs in four innings in taking the loss. Crowe is still seeking his first major league victory.

Pirate manager Derek Shelton was ejected in the sixth inning.

Salvador Perez hit a pair of home runs and Andrew Benintendi belted a grand slam while collecting five RBI for the Royals (27-26). Whit Merrifield had three hits.

Kansas City won three of the four games played against Pittsburgh this season.

Adam Frazier added two hits to his major league-leading total for the Pirates (20-34). Michael Perez had two hits and an RBI and Wilmer Difo contributed two hits.

The Pirates are off Wednesday before returning home to begin a four-game series with the Miami Marlins Thursday night.
