Albert Joseph Cowan
Albert Joseph Cowan of Slippery Rock passed away at his residence Thursday, April 15, 2021.
He was born in Ellwood City on Jan. 12, 1924, to Joseph Cowan and Bertha Mae Mackey Cowan.
He married Susan Elizabeth McFarland on April 30, 1943, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 2017.
He was a member of Unity Baptist Church. Albert was a U.S. Army World War II veteran serving in the South Pacific. He had worked at Ellwood City Tube Mill, was a janitor at Laurel High School and drove truck for his brother-in-law, Bob McFarland. He retired from Universal Rundle in New Castle in 1985 working as a warehouse attendant.
He enjoyed collecting rocks and mostly spending time with family and friends. He liked fixing cars, lawn mowers and things in general.
Survivors include three sons, Larry (Flora) Cowan of Slippery Rock, Albert (Shari) Cowan of Camp Hill, Pa., and Kenneth Cowan of Huntington, Ind.; two daughters, Cheryl Cowan Davis of Ellwood City and Pamela Cowan (Dennis) Downing of Pulaski, Pa.; brother, David (Jean) Cowan, and sister-in-law, Rhoda-Kay Cowan, all of New Castle; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, Gail and Norman, and daughter-in-law, Nancy.
COWAN — Funeral services for Albert Joseph Cowan, who died Thursday, April 15, 2021, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Unity Baptist Church, 304 Old Route 19, New Castle, with the Rev. John Yergan presiding. There will be a period of visitation for family and friends to gather one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will be in Unity Baptist Church, Scott Township.Arrangements are being handled by SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.
