Richard Flinn
Richard Dale “Dick” Flinn, 91, formerly of Saxonburg, passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021, at his home in Stafford, Va., surrounded by family.
He was born in Pittsburgh on Oct. 20, 1929, to the late Thomas Flinn and Rose Shay and moved with his family to Kremis, Pa., as a boy.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife Rita, whom he married on April 19, 1949, in Greenville. His stepfather, Russel Shay, preceded him in death.
He had three brothers, James Shay, Robert Flinn and Donald Flinn; and two sisters Lois Brzczinski, and Laura Lafon who also preceded him in death.
Dick was dedicated to his faith and his family. He was a member of Holy Sepulcher Catholic Church, where he served in many roles including church council member, CCD and RCIA teacher, commentator, and Eucharistic minister. He also served shut-ins as a Eucharistic minister, volunteered for many years at the Transfiguration House of Prayer, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Dick retired from the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad as a signal maintainer.
Surviving are his daughters, Louanna (Stan) Sowa of Pawleys Island, S.C., Victoria (Gene) Flinn-Rowe of Butler, and Kelly (Dave) Huselton of Fleming Island, Fla.; two sons, Richard D. (Kathleen) Flinn Jr. of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Shawn (Catherine) Flinn of Stafford, Va.
Richard is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Flinn — A Mass of Christian burial for Richard Dale “Dick” Flinn, who died Monday, April 12, 2021, will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Sepulcher Church, 1304 E. Cruikshank Road, Butler.
Interment will follow at St. Mary of the Assumption, 821 Herman Road, Butler. The graveside service will be private for family only.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 1501 Reedsdale St., Suite 3003, Pittsburgh, PA 15233.
