BHS maintains mask-wearing policy
The Butler Health System said universal mask wearing remains the policy at all of its facilities despite new federal guidelines that say people fully vaccinated against COVID-19 no longer have to wear them.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday updated mask-wearing guidelines by allowing fully vaccinated people to not wear masks outdoors and in most indoor places, but health care settings are not one of them, according to BHS.
Staff, providers, patients and visitors must continue to wear masks at all BHS facilities, regardless of vaccine status, BHS said.
On Friday, BHS also reported that Butler Memorial Hospital is treating eight COVID-19 patients, including three in the intensive care unit.
Those patients are among the 10,961 confirmed cases in the county reported by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Statewide, 1,643 new cases reported Friday raises the total to 1,182,922, including 28,227 among health care workers.
In nursing and personal care homes, 71,372 residents and 15,065 employees have COVID-19. Of the deaths in the state, 13,208 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.
No new deaths were reported in the county, but 27 new deaths across the state brings the total to 26,724.
There are 1,652 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 390 in intensive care. The 14-day average number of people hospitalized per day is decreasing.
