Fleece to Shawl teams weave designs June 5
The Weaver’s Cabin of Harmony will host a Fleece to Shawl Demonstration from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 5.
The event will take place on the grounds of the Weaver’s Cabin on Mercer Street in Historic Harmony.
Three teams of five members each will participate in what is normally a competition that kicks off with each team working with a sheep’s fleece.
Spectators can watch as team members work against the clock to prepare the fleece by carding and spinning the fiber into yarn.
Looms will be set up and each team will weave the yarn into a shawl of each team’s design.
Teams will display their own themes. Their attire and colors will follow chosen themes.
Spectators will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite shawl and team before bidding on their favorite shawls during an auction at the end of the demonstration and throughout the following week. Partial proceeds benefit Historic Harmony.
The shawls will be displayed at the Wunderbar Coffee & Crepes in Harmony from June 8 to 13.
Admission to the demonstration is free. The public is invited to spend the day with artisans and learn how clothing used to be made, pet a sheep and strolling through Harmony.
