COVID recovery rate increases, cases decrease

The state COVID-19 recovery rate increased Wednesday as the number of cases and hospitalizations decreased locally and statewide.

A 1% increase to 91% marks the first time the rate reached that level since early April. The rate has been slowly climbing since it fell to 88% in late April.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health also reported 20 new cases in the county, raising the total to 10,926, and 2,179 cases statewide, bringing the total to 1,179,251. About 28,120 of the cases in the state are among health care workers.

Butler Memorial Hospital is treating six patients with COVID-19, including one in intensive care. The hospital had nine patients Monday and 15 Friday.

Across the state, 1,751 people are hospitalized, including 406 in intensive care. The 14-day average number of people hospitalized per day is decreasing after peaking at 2,661, which is slightly below what it was at the height of the spring peak in May 2020.

No new deaths were reported in the county, but 52 new deaths statewide brings the total to 26,659.

In nursing and personal care homes, 71,294 residents and 15,003 employees have COVID-19. Of the deaths in the state, 13,198 have been residents of nursing or personal care facilities.

The department also reported that 3,998,209 people are fully vaccinated and 1,715,619 people are partially vaccinated, A total of 9,381,098 doses have been administered, including 5,713,828 first and single doses and 3,667,270 second doses.

In the county, 72,590 people have been fully vaccinated and 16,189 people have been partially vaccinated.
