John J. Schmitt

John J. Schmitt, 58, of Lancaster Township, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.

Born Sept. 25, 1962, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Donald J. Schmitt Sr. and Esther M. Bitzer Schmitt.

John worked for 40 years as a heavy equipment operator for Operating Engineers Local 66 of Pittsburgh.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and spending time at his family camp in Warren County, Pa. He also loved to cheer on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

John will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving companion, Kathy Hart; his brother, Donald J. (Barb) Schmitt Jr. of Clarendon, Pa.; his sisters, Bonnie (David) Harmon of Harmony, Connie (Gail) Fink of Clarendon, Pa., Vonnie (Mark) Rotnour of Harmony, and Donna (Gary) Welsh of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald C. Schmitt.

SCHMITT — Friends of John J. Schmitt, who died Tuesday, April 6, 2021, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Reid Moon officiating.

John will be laid to rest at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lancaster Township.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made in his honor to Harmony EMS, 102 Mennonite Lane, Harmony, PA 16037, or to Harmony Fire District Station 22, 543 Main Street, Harmony, PA 16037.
