Flem Willis “Willie” Byers, 95, of West Sunbury, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at his residence.

Willie was born Dec. 13, 1925, in Butler. He was the son of the late Larry Austin Byers and the late Jennie McKissick Byers.

Willie served with the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II, and with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.He was a truck driver all of his life and retired from Citizen Transport.Willie was a member of Springdale Lutheran Church, Teamsters Local 261 of New Castle, the American Legion Post 243 in West Sunbury, and was a life member of the VFW Post 6231 in Slippery Rock.Willie is survived by three daughters, Sandra M. (Ken) Kelly of Butler, Debra Gould of Butler, and Linda K. (Bob) Bell of Prospect; two sons, Joel R. Byers of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Timothy W. “Bubba” Byers of West Sunbury; one daughter-in-law, Helen J. “Jeanne” Double of Jackson Center; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.Willie was preceded in death his wife, Helen J. Byers, who passed away Feb. 2, 2018; and one son, Robert L. Double, who passed away Sept. 8, 2014.BYERS — A private memorial service for Flem Willis “Willie” Byers, who died Tuesday, March 16, 2021, will be held at a later date.Private burial will be in the West Sunbury Union Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of William F.
